“Inspiring cult-like devotion and a sea of daft grins are Welsh-speaking surf-pop heroes, Melin Melyn. Shrugging off the weight of the world through their topsy-turvy outlook, they spin hilarious yarns inspired by life’s mundanity”
The Guardian
“primary-coloured, fizzing with melody and clearly part of the Welsh psychedelic tradition that has given us Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals.”
Financial Times
“Melin Melyn provide entertainment in its purest form, and with no disrespect to other acts, it’s hard to imagine many others being able to pull it off in quite the same way.”
So Young

Today - August 28th - Welsh six-piece Melin Melyn share new single Vitamin D, their first news music of 2024 and the first single of their soon to be announced debut album, due to arrive early 2025. Vitamin D bounds from surf to psychedelic rock with ease; the perfect track for the end of summer, a final trip to the beach, and to bask in the glorious sun.
Speaking on the track, lead singer Gruff Glyn adds:
“Ah, a bit of Vitamin D on a sunny day. Pretty essential for most of us, right? Not for the protagonist of this song, who’s fallen head over heels for a computer character called Annie.” He continues: “What’s the point of catching some rays if you can stay inside in your dark room until the early hours of the morning, immersed in a virtual world with your one and only? Don’t you dare question the authenticity of his romance though, or you’ll end up in a coffin…like his mother.”
Vitamin D is the band’s first new music since 2023’s one-off single ‘I Paint Dogs’, that allowed the band to work with esteemed director and writer of Borat, Flight Of The Conchords, The Muppets and more in James Bobin. This year has seen the band road-testing new music from their soon to be announced debut album across the UK & Europe. Their performance at Green Man in 2024 made the band deserving stalwarts of the festival, playing to thousands of people on the main stage and captivating them with their semi-conceptual live show where they appeared as members of the Jolly Baskets.
In January, the band performed at Eurosonic and since then have been festival highlights at Deer Shed, Bearded Theory, Wilderness & Future Now to name but a few. Their explosive and effervescent live shows are universally lauded by The Guardian, The i, The FT, The Spectator, NME, So Young, Gigwise, and they will perform a small run of Welsh dates this Autumn. More UK dates will be announced soon. Buy tickets here.
Since emerging from the sun-kissed valleys of Wales, Melin Melyn have constantly confounded listeners with their unique blend of psychedelic surf-rock, folk and pop that set them apart from almost all other modern contemporaries and have drawn deserved comparisons to Super Furry Animals and Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci. Their 2022 Welsh Music Prize Triskel Award put them on the radar for many in Wales, and soon after the rest of the UK followed with sold out headline shows at The Garage in London, as well as Leeds, Manchester and Brighton. With their long awaited debut album on the horizon, Melin Melyn are ready to take the mantle as Wales’ next great band.
