As Mazey Haze, 22-year-old artist Nadine Appeldoorn has reclaimed her own narrative, centralising her own experience rather than being a mere footnote in someone else’s. She toned down the more ethereal, synthetic textures she started with and instead rooted herself to the earth with organic, acoustic sounds and a little less perfectionism. Her love of French New Wave cinema, old Italian film scores and 60s psych-rock informed the vein of nostalgia that runs through her new release, finding its way back to a distant world.
