Taking their name from the Manchester suburb where they first formed, Ladybarn are the latest deliciously brooding offering from the city’s alternative musical havens.
Already sharing stages with the likes of Maruja, Waxhead and Alien Chicks - and for fans of contemporary risers Martial Arts and Holly Head - the eclectic stylings on debut EP Intruder already see Ladybarn laying down waymarkers of their own. Rooted in jazz theory, yet funnelled through post-rock atmospheres, King Krule-esque indie and punk griminess, tender moments of intimate balladry are never too far away from explosive, all-noise, mayhem.
Lead single ‘One by One’ is the band’s most direct statement to date. A grisy old-world tale of love and romance is brought to life with a freakish and cinematic concoction of stifling goth-rock, crash-bang punk-rock skirmishes and mournful shoegaze remorse.
Offering more on the track, the band explain: ‘One by One’ illustrates toxic masculinity and jealousy, brought to life in a spaghetti western and blues inspired storytelling approach. Backed by flashes of punchy dynamics and dissonance, a rage-induced narrative unfolds as you’re taken on a journey through the eyes of a man steeped in violence; who ultimately meets his demise by the hand of his lover.”
