An itinerant project taking in Germany, Los Angeles, and London, LOLA’s first outing, “I Hope the Sky is Grey When I Wake Up,” generated significant attention and is followed by the new single “Anna Letter”—a song of searching and confronting the monsters of the past. Starting alone, LOLA has since added a compact band with a taut, economic sound, showcased here at its most delicate.
Due for release on February 11th via Half Normal Records, LOLA continues to captivate listeners with her stripped-back yet emotionally resonant sound. Reflecting on its creation, LOLA shares: “One morning, I found an envelope on my table at work with the note ‘Anna Letter.’ It reminded me of something I thought I had forgotten. A poem I wrote the day after turned into a song when I found my grandpa‘s ukulele. It was very much out of tune. It still is. It’s impossible to tune it. That’s why I like the sound.
