KEG straddle the fine line between post punk, old school rave and experimental pop” - Under The Radar
“There’s depth and variety etched across Girders’ five tracks” - CLASH
“A torrent of animated, angular frenzy – a real juggernaut.” - NME
“Yelping, loose-limbed indie-art-punk fun” - DIY
"Immense" - So Young Magazine
London-based collective KEG are delighted to announce their return today as they share their brand new single ‘Quip Quash’ which is out now on all good digital platforms, the first new material since the band's 2022 EP Girders which was released on Alcopop! Records/BMG last year.
Commenting on the track the band said: “Embarrassingly centred around the insecurities of writing music surrounded by your ever better, more handsome and intelligent peers. ‘Quip Quash’ is a flurry of pithy spite and clumsy word bundles.”
Following a busy summer of festivals and a string of dates across Europe, KEG have seen riotous acclaim with champions at BBC 6Music—where Steve Lamacq, Craig Charles and Chris Hawkins have all heaped praise on the outfit—and major support from publications including NME, CLASH, DIY (where the band were featured in the annual ‘Class of 2023’ tip list), DORK, So Young, CLUNK more, touring with the likes of Squid and Talk Show.
A busy festival season included slots at Green Man, End of The Road, Latitude and more.
Showcasing whip-smart spikiness remains, and a gorgeous weirdness matched by very few others, ‘Quip Quash’ is another confident stride forward for the wonk-pop 7-piece and makes a very good case for why KEG have been one of the most talked about bands of the year.
Band members Albert (vocals), Joel (bass), and Will (synth) grew up together around the seaside Yorkshire town of Bridlington, and like many artists growing up in the provinces, they shared a yearning to leave. Spreading to different parts of the country after leaving school, they found their bandmates in their respective cities and found one another once again, now based in London.
Frank (guitar), whose background resides mostly in hip-hop, afforded a unique pulse with a guitar sound which is manic, discordant but firm. Jules (guitar), whose songwriting sensibilities come from a love of cadence and craft of beautiful soul ballads, imbued the band with his structured sense of composition. Both Charlie (trombone & shell) and Johnny (drums) come from classically trained Jazz backgrounds.
KEG recently announced a run of October/November 2023 UK headline tour dates with tickets on sale now, including an appearance at Live At Leeds Festival.
