London's John Glacier makes dreamy experimental hip-hop with stream-of-consciousness lyrics, delivered in an icy, deadpan tone. After years of guest appearances and shorter releases, the Hackney native made her full-length debut with 2021's Shiloh: Lost for Words. A 2023 collaboration with Surf Gang preceded Glacier's Like a Ribbon EP in 2024.
Born to Jamaican parents, the East Londoner began writing poems as a child. She was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a chronic condition affecting bodily functions and movement, which made it difficult for her to find employment. She assisted children with physical and learning disabilities, launched an organic haircare line, and wrote and produced music at home. She posted some of her songs and sketches online, and her music found its way to producer Vegyn, whom she'd actually met at parties before, and they began collaborating. Glacier additionally appeared on tracks by Dreamcastmoe, Dean Blunt's Babyfather project, Jadasea, and others. The brief, mixtape-like Shiloh: Lost for Words was released by Vegyn's PLZ Make It Ruins in 2021, with production by Vegyn as well as Holly, Psychedelic Ensemble, and Tn_490. The album earned positive press, and Glacier gradually got used to performing and making public appearances. In 2023, she released JGSG, a collaborative EP with Surf Gang. Glacier's EP Like a Ribbon was issued by Young in 2024, featuring Eartheater on the single "Money Shows." She also appeared on "A Dream Goes on Forever," an optimistic single from Vegyn's album The Road to Hell Is Paved with Good Intentions.
