Initially formed as the teenage project of sisters Annabel and Georgie, Hockeysmith acquired shape over the coming years. The debut single 'Let's Bang' and debut EP 'But Blood' released in 2014 generated attention for it's mix of electronic acid bass and post punk noise. But Blood, released through British indie label Double Denim, described by Dummy magazine as 'acieeeed', 'there are big beats, hard rock, shoe gaze and acid house'.
Hockeysmith's sound evolved through their immersion into Copenhagen's underground music scene and their influence of Cornwall's rave culture. The sisters converted a stable in Cornwall into a recording studio, where Annabel returned to in 2017 as a sole member of Hockeysmith. Merging the collaborative ethos of Copenhagen's music scene working with the likes of Nis Bysted (Escho/Mayhem) with the soporific stillness of Cornwall to create the 2nd EP 'Tears At My Age' in 2019., which The Fader said "bewitches with a hypnotic mix of R&B vocals and the dream-like state created by classic Cocteau Twins material". Aphex Twin has endorsed and supported Hockeysmith throughout their musical career to date.
Hockeysmith's new collection of recordings (2020) were inspired and written in Cornwall and produced in a city that has been an inspiration to Hockeysmith's sound and direction, Paris.
