city: South LondonSouth London-based Irish songwriter and producer piglet (Charlie Loane) (he/him) returns with a collaborative single with Bristol based artist Jemima Coulter (they/them) called “panic," out now via Blue Flowers.
“panic" is a powerful and introspective track that delves into the complexities of friendship, manipulation, and self-preservation. Speaking about the song, piglet shares; "'panic' is about realizing a friendship has swayed too far into manipulation and lies to be recoverable. The song discusses the search for meaning amongst this realisation and the conclusion that the person's actions are an echo of how they have been treated and a reflection of a society which rejects the value of care rather than a personal failing. It’s been a real honor and very good craic working with Jem, and the song feels like a really nice blend of what we both do.”
Jemima Coulter adds, "In community, we always hope to show up as family for each other, unconditionally supportive and understanding. The hard part is when it starts to feel one-sided or harmful somehow - how far can we support people without it negatively impacting our own lives? At what point is leaving people to be responsible for themselves a good thing and at what point is it abandonment?"
piglet's previous work has garnered significant attention and acclaim. His seven songs EP released via Blue Flowers featured standout tracks such as "it isnt fair," which addresses the injustices of British healthcare for trans people, and "to you tonight," a celebration of queer identity. The EP and follow up single “building site outside,” also a deeply personal exploration about the trans experience, led to piglet being selected as part of The Face's One To Watch 23 series and profiled by notable publications So Young and Loud & Quiet. Additionally, his music videos, created in collaboration with trans filmmaker Harv Frost, have supported fundraising efforts for the We Exist charity.
Coulter too has been making a name for themselves for their deeply personal, thoughtful and emotive approach to music. Together they create a unique perspective and depth of community dynamics and the balance between support and self-care.
“panic" is out now via Blue Flowers with more music from piglet to come shortly.
