“On/Off” is a power pop anthem created in a hallway closet then slathered through a tape machine, that invokes the nostalgia of ‘The Wonder Years’ and climaxes with the first guitar solo in history to hook, line and sinker the listener back on, off & on again.
"It took me a long time to realize “On/Off” was more autobiographical than I intended. I thought I was writing from the perspective of people I knew growing up, but after listening to it enough I realized 'oh wow, that's definitely my memory and that's my old relationship I'm talking about. Shocking.' I remember thinking up the opening lyric, 'I’d say at the time you were my best friend' on a walk home. Nothing outstanding about that, but I loved it and it brought me out of a block I was in, so of all our songs I really owe a lot to this one. This was also the first song we wrote for 'Rolodex', but it never made it onto the album. Makes yuh wonder." -Scott Huerta, French Cassettes
