Eyesore & The Jinx’s early singles and debut EP were released by Merseyside taste-makers Eggy Records. Eyesore’s sphere of influence began to expand out their home region, starting with a BBC 6Music Roundtable win for ‘On An Island’ produced by Jonathan Hartley from iconic psych-surgeons Clinc. Their debut EP, featuring singles ‘Leisure Time’ (KEXP Song of the Day) and ‘Nightlife’, was produced by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band).
Eyesore songs often consist of ugly narratives centred around vile fictional characters. They take loose inspiration from what is happening around them, which has meant in some cases, their made up stories have come true. Predicting the downfall of local public figures aside, their repertoire often centres around the worst of society (the eyesore), but with a playful side (the jinx). This continues through their new material alongside a healthy dollop of self-reflection.
After releasing the EP in the midst of the pandemic, they spent the latter end of 2021 and much of 2022 writing new material and tightening it up on stage with choice gigs supporting acts like Bodega, Working Mens Club and DITZ. While stepping away from releasing music to continue writing and demoing, ‘Leisure Time’ carried on doing the work behind their backs appearing on an episode of Shameless US and a number of Spotify editorial playlists.
2023 feels like a fresh start for the band, with lots of recorded music under their belts there’s an album announcement just round the corner.
