Ducks Ltd. have shared their urgent, shimmering new single “The Main Thing,” out today via Carpark Records alongside a Colin Medley-directed video, and featuring backing vocals from Dehd’s Jason Balla. The song is the band’s first new original music since their 2022 single, “Sheets Of Grey,” and their recent collaborative single cover series, which saw Ducks Ltd. working with Mo Troper, Ratboys, Illuminati Hotties, and Jane Inc. Of the Dave Vettraino (Deeper, Lala Lala, Alabaster DePlume, Dehd)-produced track, singer/lyricist Tom McGreevy explains, “‘The Main Thing’ is about growing apart from someone whose perspective you once shared. Being in lockstep with another person and then suddenly realizing you are no longer aligned. That you're watching them throw themselves into the same losing battles over and over again, but also recognizing that all that losing might be the right thing to do.” The Toronto duo of McGreevy and Evan Lewis has also announced a New York show at TV Eye in Ridgewood, Queens, on December 2nd, with The Ophelias supporting. They will also head overseas to London, England, this spring for a show at the Moth Club on May 27th, 2024. More dates will be announced soon.
A band at the forefront of modern power pop, Ducks Ltd.’s breakthrough debut album Modern Fiction saw critical acclaim from outlets including Rolling Stone (‘Best Music of 2021: Staff Picks’), Stereogum (‘40 Best New Bands of 2021’), Aquarium Drunkard, FLOOD Magazine (‘Best Albums of 2021’), Paste (‘30 Best Debuts of 2021,’ ‘40 Best Rock Albums of 2021’), Brooklyn Vegan, and more. The band toured extensively around its release, supporting Nation of Language, Illuminati Hotties, and Archers of Loaf. Stay tuned for more news from Ducks Ltd.
Previous praise for Ducks Ltd.
“[Ducks Ltd.] understand that dancing through misery is healthier than dancing around it. Their brand of lilting, throwback jangle-pop makes that seem like the easiest thing in the world to do.” — Pitchfork
“Like the Chills mixed with the Feelies mixed with the Wedding Present mixed with the Bats...in a year like this a little private comfort went a long way” — Rolling Stone
“...Ducks Ltd. put their own spin on a classic sound, most recently heard on their chiming (and charming) debut album, Modern Fiction, which is clearly inspired by classics like the Feelies and the Go-Betweens but also pulls from more modern indie staples such as Real Estate and Beach Fossils. They’re a valuable addition to the canon.” — Stereogum
“Channeling the vibrant sounds of bands like Felt and The Go-Betweens, Modern Fiction is an ideal 30 minutes spent in an uplifting soundscape, a warm rejoinder to the oncoming winter.”
