“New Banger” NME
“Prime 21st Century psych ... they've certainly got the chops to be contenders” Shindig!
“mystifying, Earth-shaking” The Indie Scene
“Like a cosmic comet streaking across the sky…their sound is churning tempest” Still Listening
“It looks like we have all the paraphernalia of a psyche rock masterpiece: scuzzy guitars dipped in the Ancient Springs of Reverb, an unreachable rainbow of drawbar organs showing you colours that may or may not actually be there…” The Most Radicalist
In anticipation of nationwide tour dates this autumn, Bristol quartet Dreamwave share the psych-blues swagger of new single ‘Polystyrene Irene’ - out today (11th October) via Velvet Echoes (Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine).
A two minute power-rocket of snarling vocals and crunching blues fuzz-riffs - recalling the likes of The Black Angels or Ty Segall - ‘Polystyrene Irene’ showcases another string to Dreamwave’s lysergic bow as a band obsessed with neo-psychedelia and all its permutations - be it breakneck psych-punk, luxurious dream-pop or relentless motorik.
Offering more on the single, guitarist/vocalist Ben Symonds says:' I was just feeling creative and had recently listened to Polythene Pam by the Beatles. My nan is called Irene and she’s a big character, loves smoking ciggies - a real force of nature. I changed the title to polystyrene to rhyme with her name.”
The band’s first outing since the release of debut EP Dreamwave in The Mindcave back in May this latest single arrives off the back of airplay from BBC Introducing and Radio X (John Kennedy), and press support in 2024 from NME, Far Out, Shindig!, Still Listening, The Indie Scene, Blogotheque, Wax Music and The Most Radicalist.
Formed in Brighton at University, before relocating to their collective Bristol hometown, Dreamwave formed in 2018 united by a mutual love of krautrock and psychedelia. Self-releasing a pair of home-recorded efforts before signing to Bristol independent label Velvet Echoes and releasing debut EP Dreamwave and The Mindcave earlier this year, the band can boast performances at Glastonbury and Dot To Dot festival, as well as sundry support slots for various international indie/psych figureheads such Holy Wave, Wombo, Radio Free Alice, Boogarins, Night Beats and System Exclusive (of Castle Face Records).
