“These ten songs provide a chastening scrapbook of images of a broken land, but Songs From Planet Earth is also an album of sublime musical beauty and restrained furious energy… this is protest music in its most sublime expression”
THE PUNK SITE (⅘)
Everyone knows that all great things come in threes, and today - DEUX FURIEUSES - deliver the goods with their seismic third album ‘Songs From Planet Earth’.
An album of hope and fire that burns all the brighter in these darkest of times, it finds the duo of Ros Cairney and Vas Antoniadou rising up with some of their most incendiary work to date.
10 tracks for the here and now, ‘Songs From Planet Earth’ stands against the tides of political turmoil, societal inequalities and climate emergency with a barrage of ragged alt/rock inflected sounds. Amongst its ranks are the insurrectionary singles including “Our Day Will Come”, “All We Need Is Sanctuary”, “Know The Score” and the Boris Johnson-toppling “Bring Down The Government”, all of which contribute to this essential new effort.
Speaking about the album upon its release today, Deux Furieuses say:
“‘Songs From Planet Earth’ is a beating heart signal out from this world as we fall spinning into a vortex of pandemic, isolation, avoidable deaths, political corruption, personal mourning and ultimately survival. The album documents Ros' journey through the pandemic from the city to the countryside in search of sanctuary.”
Taking their campaign of positivity, protest and punk to the people, next week (18 Nov), fans in London can catch Deux Furieuses performing at a very special launch show at The Lexington, London. With confirmed *special guest* appearances from Deb Googe of My Bloody Valentine (who appears on “Bring Down The Government”), plus punk/rock kindred-spirit Brix Smith (for whom Deux Furieuses have been providing backing band duties all year), it’s an evening that promises to give ‘Songs From Planet Earth’ the warmest of welcomes to our world. Supporting sets will also come from Hurtling and Where We Sleep.
Fans around the UK will also have the opportunity to see the band fighting their corner when they hit the road with Xtra Mile compadres Skinny Lister this November.
