Cooney Thatcher's name is derived from the matronymic names of his family which would otherwise have been lost to the patrilineal surname tradition of his culture. In his music, he strives to achieve the same; salvaging forgotten ancestry and highlighting the path from history to a living, growing, creative presence.

A restless singer/songwriter who reckons worldly influence against emotional integrity, with a hint of dry humor, Cooney Thatcher synthesizes many American folk traditions, following the footsteps of Jonathan Richman and Cass Mccombs, while integrating the influence of Brazilian greats such as Gilberto Gil and João Bosco, in their endless stylistic evolution.

After an ambitious yearlong project, writing, recording, and producing one song every week, Thatcher is building on that momentum with his first official single, "There's Still Time," a mellow homage to patience amid chaos, woven through an immersive rhythmic atmosphere.

Between the daily songs, home-recorded in his Greenfield, MA apartment (released on his Instagram page) and his upcoming EP, titled "There's Your House," Fans of Cooney Thatcher’s music will not be facing short supply anytime soon.
