Brighton-based feminist electro-punk trio CLT DRP are today delighted to release their second album Nothing Clever, Just Feelings which is out now via Venn Records (Bob Vylan, Witch Fever, Meryl Streek).
Album focus track ‘Daily Affirmations’ is also out now, a tongue in cheek take on self improvement mantras that showcases the band’s unique mix of social commentary and dry humour to perfection, all soundtracked by their pummeling, idiosyncratic electro-punk.
Commenting on the track, vocalist Annie Dorrett says: “Self-deprecation! Jealousy! Excessive drinking! Trying to make myself feel better by being overly-confident! All of the above!”
Recorded at Shaken Oak Studios in Oxford over the course of a week in March 2022, Nothing Clever, Just Feelings was produced by Alex Gordon (The Cure, Tigercub, Sea Power, Blood Red Shoes). With the studio based in a rural setting on a farm, guitarist Scott Reynolds enjoyed a morning trail run before starting each day, and the band cooked family-style for each other every day.
Hailed as “one of the freshest albums to spring from the UK underground in some time” by Kerrang! Magazine and reaffirming CLT DRP’s unique position at the cutting edge of electronic, noise-infused music, Nothing Clever, Just Feelings seamlessly merges various genres to create a unique sound that is both exhilarating and reflective.
Focused on themes of queerness and heartbreak, each track explores the raw emotions that come along with these lived experiences, delivering a personal and poignant message at every turn—newfound feminism in vulnerability and gender fluidity; newfound femininity in humour and the fear of being alone.
Previous singles ‘NEW BOY’, ‘Nothing Clever, Just Feelings’ and ‘I See My Body Through You’ have picked up rapidly increasing radio support from Iggy Pop, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, and Deb Grant at BBC6 Music, Alex Baker at Kerrang! Radio, been added to the Radio X X-Posure playlist, appeared on The Selector with Jamz Supernova, and landed high profile DSP support from Spotify’s ‘Misfits 2.0’, ‘All New Punk’ and ‘The Other List’, Amazon’s Breakthrough Rock and Deezer’s ASAP Rock.
CLT DRP have already caused a stir across UK and EU festivals this year, having supported electronic pioneer Gary Numan and played sets at The Great Escape, 2000 Trees, Best Kept Secret (NL), and Premices (CH).
With highlight appearances at Boomtown and a stage headline slot at ArcTanGent fresh in the memory, the band’s hometown album release show tonight at Green Door Store, Brighton is also now SOLD OUT. The remainder of CLT DRP’s winter 2023 UK headline tour dates are on sale now (see below for listings).
The band will be live in session for John Kennedy at Radio X tonight.

More info:
Formed in 2017, CLT DRP released their rave-reviewed instant classic debut album Without The Eyes on Small Pond Records in August 2020 to a surge of press and radio support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6music, Radio X, and many more.
Leading to support slots with some of the most vital and exciting alternative bands on the live circuit including JOHN, Saint Agnes, Clipping, Svalbard, Witch Fever, Heriot, Tokky Horror, De Staat and Warmduscher, their early success saw the band appear at a host of festivals including Strangeforms, PORTALS, Tredfest and more.
CLT DRP’s subsequent 2021 standalone single ‘Ownership’ picked up praise from Kerrang! Magazine, was made John Kennedy’s X-Posure Hot One on Radio X, and also enjoyed support from Spotify’s The Punk List, Fresh Finds: Rock, and Post Punk 2k playlists.
By 2022 the band were being hailed as one of the most abrasive, innovative new artists in the UK, and most-recent singles ‘TORX’ and ‘Aftermath’ saw them collaborate with New York’s FLOSSING (Brace Yourself Records)—landing hot on the Radio X Xposure Evening Playlist, the material marked a further evolution of their eclectic, experimental approach to fusing electronic and punk music in boundary breaking fashion.
Forthcoming new album Nothing Clever, Just Feeling’s lead single ‘NEW BOY’ and title track ‘Nothing Clever, Just Feelings’ were released earlier this year and picked up support from Kerrang! Magazine, Total Guitar, Guitar World, UPSET, Louder Than War, Noizze, Get In Her Ears, Loud Women and more.
Radio support has been rolling in for the new material from Marc Riley, Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq at BBC 6music, John Kennedy at Radio X, Jamz Supernova on The Selector, and Melita Dennett at BBC introducing.
Streaming platforms have been equally enthusiastic about new material from the trio, with support from Spotify’s official Misfits 2.0 and All New Punk playlists, Amazon’s Breakthrough Rock, and Deezer’s ASAP Rock.
The band have recently appeared alongside Alice Glass and Tokky Horror and put in some typically chaotic and turbo-charged live appearances at Takedown Festival and The Great Escape, recently announcing a run of UK and German summer live dates and festival appearances including ArcTanGent, Best Kept Secret (NL), and Wrong Fest (Bulgaria) with further live dates TBA (see below for listings).
