Emergent art-rock group CIVIL PARTNERSHIP break
cover with raucous, visceral single Vienna Circle out
on 25 March 2025.
Vienna Circle was written as a set opener designed to test stage levels and lure fans from
venues’ smoking areas with unusual drones and massive volume. The song found new life
during recording, with CIVIL PARTNERSHIP marrying sizzling guitars with soaring bass and
thumping hip-hop drums, culminating in an enthralling, colour-drenched wall of sound.
The group cites a diverse array of artists as influences on Vienna Circle, ranging from
Camberwell crooner Jerkcurb to 1950’s rock’n’roll renegade Link Wray.
Vienna Circle is the first recorded offering from CIVIL PARTNERSHIP since sprawling singles
Good Morning Britain and Saltaire, both released in 2022. Over the ensuing years the project
has evolved at pace, expanding through divergent lineups into a four-piece. Throughout, CIVIL
PARTNERSHIP has played blistering live shows across the UK alongside peers like Dog Race,
Real Farmer and Borough Council. The group often performs at independent London venues,
particularly Windmill Brixton, The George Tavern and Paper Dress Vintage.
Vienna Circle will be released alongside an experimental music video by filmmaker and CIVIL
PARTNERSHIP bass player Jack George Smith. The video was filmed at night in January 2025
from a moving car driving from the group’s native South London to their rehearsal space at
FOLD, Canning Town using textures and multiple exposure editing inspired by Stan Brakhage.
Vienna Circle is the first of several releases planned for 2025, with a polar-opposite,
folk-inspired follow-up single due for release on 6 May 2025. CIVIL PARTNERSHIP’s debut EP is
scheduled for gradual release from autumn 2025. The group will continue performing in London
and beyond throughout 2025.
