CIVIL PARTNERSHIP release ‘Icarus’ on 6 May, the second release from the project in the past two
months and latest of four highly varied singles.
‘Icarus’ sees CIVIL PARTNERSHIP swerve into wholly different sonic territory. The single marries
poetic vocals with delicately played lo-fi guitars and a luscious string quartet, unfolding with the
tenderness and restraint hinted at in earlier shoegaze single ‘Saltaire’ but in a folkier, more acoustic
palette. Its lyrics are the band’s most intimate and vulnerable to date, drawing on heaviness in family
ties and a yearning for closeness. Released a mere six weeks after preceding single ‘Vienna Circle’ –
a song characterised by enthralling, colour-drenched distortion – CIVIL PARTNERSHIP continue to
demonstrate the breadth of their range.
CIVIL PARTNERSHIP expanded into a four-piece in 2024, subsequently performing a run of shows
across the UK alongside peers Dog Race, Real Farmer and Borough Council at independent venues
including The George Tavern, The Exchange, Avalon Café and the Windmill Brixton.
After a short break spent writing, CIVIL PARTNERSHIP returned to live performance this March-April
with three blistering live shows at the Windmill, bringing intense, idyllic, floor-shaking shoegaze
soundscapes. The group are scheduled to play twice this May supporting New York’s Patio (Fire Talk
Records) and London contemporaries Cherry i.
‘Icarus’ is the last release from CIVIL PARTNERSHIP this side of summer. Debut EP ‘Head for the
Hills’ follows, scheduled for gradual release from Autumn into Winter. The group will continue
performing in London and beyond throughout 2025.
