One may have thought that sharing your name (phonetically at least) with one of the greatest thinkers of modern times might weigh heavy on some, however Carl Yeung is determined not to let historical inconvenience and the crushing disappointment of his psychology teacher intervene with his own journey to musical enlightenment.
The Newcastle born songwriter - now based in London - may not be unearthing psychological concepts of synchronicity and the collective unconscious, or moving the pillars of human understanding as we know it, however one thing Carl Yeung hopes to move is you, the listener - both figuratively and literally. All through the power of sweet, sweet music. Although his musical influences tend to vary, some mainstays are the likes of Alice Phoebe Lou, Michael Nau, Alvvays, Courtney Barnett and Nick Drake.
After over 10 years of recording from his home studio, hidden away from the sunlight and fresh air, wondering what life might be like on the other side of the curtain (outside of a small feature in BBC2's Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing), Carl's finally ready to take that big step into the wild world of music. His first single, "Bad Taxi", was released on Friday June 14th this year. 🌴🚖
