The Toulouse-based band Cathedrale unveils The Setting Sun, the debut single
taken from Poison their fifth album, set to be released on February 14, 2025 vi
Howlin’ Banana Records and Regarts.
Inspired by Baudelaire's poem Poison, the song offers a free interpretation, capturing the
dark, mesmerizing essence of the original text. Its lyrics explore themes of destructive
pleasures, temptation, and the melancholy that accompanies moments of escape,
reflecting on human vice
The Setting Sun unfolds over slow, hypnotic rhythms, creating a heavy, and immersive
atmosphere. The song tackles themes of addiction and ruin inherent in Baudelaire's
words, while infusing a modern touch unique to the band's style. The song perfectly sets
the stage for the tension-filled universe of the album Poison, where shadow and ligh
coexist.
Cathedrale explains: « When we wrote The Setting Sun, we already sensed that the
album’s theme would revolve around poison. Gradually, we became more confortable with
this overarching idea and theme for the album. Naturally, we couldn’t miss the chance to
adapt Baudelaire’s poem and make it our own. »
