Boy Factory is a band founded by Meghana Goli (vocals), Áine Mullaly (guitar), and Aidan Drouse (guitar) in 2023. The trio met at Fordham University and began playing music together in late 2022, eventually forming Boy Factory the summer after graduation. Goli, Mullaly, and Drouse were later joined by drummer Izzy Wardlaw and bassist Woods Prewitt, solidifying their live act. In April 2024 the group released their first single, Closer To / Collages, consisting of two songs showcasing the wide range of moods and sounds in their songwriting repertoire. Both ethereal and gritty, the songs are clear evidence of how well the trio works together. Boy Factory’s music is hypnotic, falling in between riffy shoegaze and something noisier; guitar harmonies and a throbbing kickdrum are punctuated by floating, ethereal vocals. Layered vocal tracks with spoken word and whispers contrast the gritty, distorted guitar that carries Collages into its dramatic finish. Goli, Drouse, and Mullaly are most interested in making hits and stacking bread. They are not here to make friends or play at your Instagram photoset-ass party. Boy Factory’s next show will be at the Stone Circle Theater in Ridgewood, Queens on May 22, 2024.
