Big Softy make danceable, off-kilter music that is both fun and challenges expectations.
Leeds-based duo Aidan Razzall & Tom Orrell have worked alongside each other on several different projects over the years in various capacities, but once they started to make demos together, they quickly racked up hundreds of ideas, loops and sketches which eventually formed the songs for Big Softy.
Their synth-heavy sound is inspired by the likes of Underworld and LCD Soundsystem, but the visual identity of the band is equally important. “We wanted to put across an animated aesthetic, almost hyper-real and digital, but one that is also vibrant and fun, colour-wise,” explains Aidan. “We’re both pretty awkward, so it’s a way of expressing the sound of the music visually, rather than focusing on us as people.”
