BIG SPECIAL are today announcing their final new music of the year in the shape of new single 'TREES'.
'TREES' caps a run of four breakout singles released by the band in 2023 - 'SHITHOUSE', 'THIS HERE AIN'T WATER', 'DESPERATE BREAKFAST' - each of which have landed on the BBC 6 Music playlist, with 'THIS HERE AIN'T WATER' making the A-list. 'TREES' is a rumbling slow-burn that erupts into a cacophonous outro, and a booming cry of “No peace, No peace” that feels like a fitting way for BIG SPECIAL to see out their 2023 and announce their arrival as a name to keep a very close eye on in 2024.
Vocalist Joe Hicklin had the following to say about the new single: "'TREES' is about ritual. The song is about routines and objects we start to depend on to cope with our life and times and the journeys we take to fulfil that dependence. It’s about how life catches up with you whilst trying to balance those cycles of responsibility and self-gratification. But I think it’s about not feeling guilty about what makes us human; life’s hard, there’s no peace and we all need a slice a cake here and there."
Most significantly for the band this year however has been their dedication to the BIG SPECIAL live show, which has seen them dominating festival stages and winning over audiences up and down the country. As well as playing free shows for charities including Mind and Change Into Action, they have just spent a week on the road opening for Sleaford Mods. Their own UK headline tour in December is on the cusp of selling out. They have now been announced as headliners on DIY's Now & Next UK tour for April 2024 and have shared news of their biggest London headline show to date for May 2024, at The Jazz Cafe.
