SCOTTISH POST-PUNK BAND, Alba Fury, will release their second single ‘This is Why’ on the 7th February 2025.
The track addresses the deep-seated anxiety we sometimes feel about openly sharing our true feelings and emotions, and how bottling them up can lead to issues further down the line.
This is Why is raw and driving, held down by a motoric rhythm section, and complemented by haunting, yet melodic guitar riffs. With its pounding tom-heavy drums, akin to Nirvana’s Territorial Pissings, the track builds towards a rollicking chorus. The vocal melodies and reflective lyrics have pop sensibilities, delivered in a controlled, yet confrontational Scottish brogue.
In keeping with the band’s DIY ethos, the single was produced largely by the band themselves. It was recorded in part, in Aberdeen, with billboard-charting producer Ryan (RYZY) MacKay tracking the drums and bass guitar. The guitar and vocals were recorded by the band in Edinburgh, with mixing and post-production handled by the band’s bass player (and songwriter-producer), Jamie Thomson. The track was mastered by Philip Marsden in Oxford.
Jamie Thomson, the band’s songwriter and bass player, says:
‘This is Why is a song about acknowledging when you need help with emotional issues, whatever they may be. It’s about the anxiety that stems from our fear of being judged, rejected, or hurt as a result of revealing personal weaknesses or insecurities. Ultimately though, it’s a hopeful song about how facing vulnerability can lead to self-awareness and emotional resilience’.
The release coincides with the band’s next gig at The Old Dr Bells Baths in Leith, Edinburgh, where they are supporting The View’s Kyle Falconer, alongside a line-up that includes DOVV, Stagboy, Robin Ashcroft, and Rosie Alice.
