Following the acclaimed punk-funk & new wave of this year's album ‘shapes & colors’, Oakland duo abracadabra switch gears for a dub mix of their own song 'Swim', ahead of their debut European headline tour this November.
The band had the following to say on the single:
"After ‘shapes & colors’ was finished, we circled back to ‘swim’ because we felt compelled to really expand upon that theme. We had been listening to a lot of 12” dub remixes and felt there were sounds tucked away within the eco system of ‘swim’ that we wanted to pull out and play with a bit. For example, there were some frogs in the original version that likely went unnoticed as they were gently tucked behind the seagulls. For the extended dub remix we were able to treat those frogs more as a musical instrument - chopping up the sounds to create rhythmic loops and then running them through a tape delay. We also took an experimental route with the vocals - reversing them at points, and were excited to find that a whole new melody emerged from the chorus. We really leaned in to that at the end of the song, layering a circular & wandering flutey synth atop them, and were happy to float out of the song on that peaceful watery cadence."
After their first trip to UK shores in March to support weirdo-pop kindred spirits The Go! Team, abracadabra bring their wonky & wonderful live show back for a headline tour, making their debut foray into mainland Europe as they go. swim (extended dub) is out now, and is joined by their recent Nine Inch Nails cover the hand that feeds on a double single out now on Melodic.
