Kent punk purveyors Lady Bird share debut album ‘WE’, out today (February 25th) via Alcopop! Records (Pulled Apart By Horses, The Subways, Tigercub).
Teaming with the cult indie label for their first full-length outing, ‘WE’ embodies the essence of the three individuals that make up the band, demonstrating the collective creativity and spark that ignites when they combine to make music. A celebration of survival and life, the record also captures the turbulence of the time that led up to its creation, the emotions induced and the strong sense of brotherhood and friendship that got them through it all.
Spearheaded by boisterous lead track ‘Factory Fool’ and gripping follow-up ‘Infants’, Lady Bird showcase exactly what to expect from their debut LP, with the acclaimed trio’s deep-thinking, fierce intelligence and heart-on-sleeve vulnerability evident throughout, manifested within a raw, signature sound that’s already attracted significant fanfare over the last few years with multiple sold-out UK live runs.
Marking the follow-up to 2020 EP ‘BRAINWASH MACHINE SETTING’, which captured the imagination of key indie press champions (DIY, Dork, Clash, Gigwise, So Young, The Independent), as well as extended airplay on both BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, it’s clear the band’s place within the contemporary punk scene is developing at an impressive rate.
Detailing the record, frontman Don Bird explained: “‘In the face of obstacles which seem insurmountable, 'WE' need each other. Whilst it seems more relevant than ever in the midst of the global pandemic movement, our debut album has its title as an expression of such adversity which, for us, predates recent historical shifts. Tackling hardship, losing loved ones, or as presented in the title track; losing a parent, all require a genuine and reliable network of support in order to redirect into an upward trajectory. This experience is Lady Bird, through which the last five years have culminated in a record which contains (we feel) our best new music, from deep state commentary, to playful pun promises via calm personal insights".
Lady Bird’s ‘WE’ (LP) is out now via Alcopop! Records and available across all digital platforms.
