Minneapolis-based Unstable Shapes released their third single “Feral Joy” on Friday, November 1st, 2024. On the song, vocalist Andrew Cahak delivers a frantic performance by about coming to terms with one’s true nature (“I’m a vulgar werewolf in a tuxedo!”) and all of the complex emotions that go with it. Cahak’s wailing howls are layered over a propulsive rhythm section (James Taylor on drums and Kevin Hurley on bass) and jangly, intertwined guitars (Mitch Gustafson and Ryan Jaroscak), flexing to create tension throughout the three minute single.
“Feral Joy” follows the band’s previous singles, “Glass Ladder” and “The Local Sphinx,” which surfaced on streamers in February 2024. All three songs will appear on the band’s forthcoming full-length debut, which they recorded with producer Knol Tate (Kill Sadie, Askeleton, Deleter, and many more).
