As you may have put together by now, our upcoming album isn't a "good time" record, it's actually the complete opposite of that, it's very much a "bad time" record.

Tunic has always been a way for me to deal with and sort through my pain, it's been one of if not the healthiest coping mechanism I've had in my mental health toolkit. Be it my struggle with alcohol abuse or the depression and anxiety disorders I've battled with my whole life, however this record is not just about my pain, but my wife's pain too.

'A Harmony of Loss Has Been Sung' is an album about the miscarriage we experienced in early 2023 after trying to conceive for years. It's a record about the worst heartbreak we've ever experienced, the feeling of the thing you've wanted more than anything slipping through your fingers and mourning the greatest loss we've ever felt. Some of the lyrics on this record are direct quotes from conversations we had when we could find the words to speak. Fiona, my wife, was very much a part of the creation of this album and finds the entire record to be as unburdening as I and encouraged the inception of the record. And just to reiterate, this is very much a bad time record.

With the announcement of a new record there is usually a lengthy tour that follows or that's how it's been for us in the past, however we will not be touring this record. We won't be touring this record because of good news as my wife and I are expecting our first child in May; which of course the two of us are thrilled about. We had a lengthy tour booked but made the call that being on tour during the third trimester probably wouldn't be the wisest choice, so we cancelled the shows before we even announced them. We of course will play shows and tour again, but 2025 will see us release this record and not play a single show for it.

This band fulfills my insatiable and addictive nature to create, a connection to a large and supportive community, my closest friendships and most importantly an outlet for life's toughest moments. I hope this record conveys these moments and allows you some catharsis for whatever you're dealing with in your life and lord knows there is no shortage of terribleness in the world right now. All this to say, I don't want to have to explore these themes ever again, but it was something that we had to do to let them go.

A Harmony of Loss Has Been Sung is a document of pure pain. The six songs that span Tunic's fourth record are intense, uncomfortable and bleak as hell. The midwest duo move away from traditional songwriting and find themselves creating guttural, cathartic outpourings of tortured rage that combine elements of post rock, skramz and of course, noise rock.

Tunic has always been a vessel for dealing with pain. However, the band's latest effort chronicles not just frontman David Schellenberg's pain, but his wife's too; as the album centres around the miscarriage that the couple experienced in early 2023. Throughout the album Schellenberg tells the story of heartbreak between depraved screams of lunacy and defeated washed-out monotone that perfectly move in tandem with the heaviest compositions the band has ever crafted.

A Harmony of Loss Has Been Sung is a record that doesn't want you to catch on; there's not a chorus on the whole thing for you to even do so; but that doesn't mean it's not listenable, it's quite the opposite even. It will engulf you for its full 33 minutes, drag you under into its world of brutal defeat; and have you bartering for solace that will never come.
