Pop chops, wild ideas, spiky guitars and no end of guttural bass – that’s the formula that Cork’s The Love Buzz have followed and it’s a route that’s led them right to their Glastonbury debut via the festival’s Emerging Talent Competition. It’s a long way from home so the fun-packed punk three-piece have decided to play no fewer than FIVE TIMES over the weekend and celebrate their arrival by releasing a brand new single – Sing! Sing!
Pointing right at themselves and declaring the arrival of a ‘tongue in cheek beacon of hope’ onto the UK’s music scene, their knockabout confidence is easy to hear across Sing! Sing! as they trade the 4AD slacker, grunge-revival sound of previous singles, including live favourites Harp and Ellis Dee, for a conscious rejection of life’s downers. Instead, they now favour something altogether brighter and sweeter. In times of trouble, sometimes there’s nothing more to do but sing.
Having tripped between Berlin and their home city in the south of Ireland in recent years, retaining firm links to Europe having soaked up the very best of the continent’s fashion, art and music during that time, Kieran Hurley (guitars/vocals), Aidan Lynch (bass) Henry Love (drums) and Oisin Walsh Agnew (guitars) have used their Love Buzz to live out a pop-punk dream, making friends to share it with along the way. Citing influences as disparate as NEU!, Thee Oh Sees, Sigue Sigue Sputnik and Elvis Costello, the three-piece can cite Sing! Sing! as the latest, joyous conclusion to their happy wandering. |
