Simon Ferdinand returns to his own Polycarp Records this February with the ‘Unsigned’ EP, a four-track project of unnamed cuts designed to let the music do the talking. Since 2016 the Simon Ferdinand helmed Polycarp Records has been slowly unveiling material which meanders through genres but keeping a raw, underground aesthetic at its core.
'A1’ opens with haunting synth tones, gritty bass stabs and fluttering wooden percussion before the ‘A2’ ups the energy levels with weighty 808 drums, snaking resonant synth licks and bright leads all dynamically evolving throughout. ‘A3’ then turns things up a notch further with twitchy metallic synth, heavily saturated drums, snappy snare drums and airy atmospherics and intricately delayed synth melodies. ‘A4’ then concludes the EP, stripping things back to a more raw, reduced state as smooth pads, fluttering synths and electronic bleeps ebb and flow amongst a crisp, tight drum groove.
