Two of the UK’s most prodigious, defining contemporary musical artists and multi-hyphenate creatives, Rainy Miller and Space Afrika prep full kength collaborative project titled ‘A Grisaille Wedding’ due for release in November.

‘A Grisaille Wedding’ is a project based on the personification of the semi-fictitious world that Space Afrika have come to build over the years. Using musique concrete and British soundscapes, fused with sonic both noise and contemporary.

The project is rooted in filling and occupying the space and environment that Rainy and Space Afrika have both come to dwell on when producing their music. Space Afrika’s work has always contained meaning and message, but it was an early intention of Rainy’s to try and perform within their world in a much more literal sense, to put more of a focal point on voice and lyricism for this environment Space Afika create.  

‘A Grisaille Wedding’, extrapolating feelings, and thoughts of the light, dark and inconclusive, woven around the concrete streets and rainy skies that often follow us. A shining light amongst the dark, to guide the way to something new, if only for a day or eternity. There’s light in the places nobody goes.  But it’s there for all to seek.

Having both independently cemented themselves at the centre of the new sound of the UK, and indelibly impacting the future of music; this release marks a major milestone for not only the artists themselves but the scene both acts spearhead as a whole. Two artists legitimately at the apex of modern British experimental music, featuring some of the biggest and most promising talent today. ‘A Grisaille Wedding’ will be Space Afrika’s first full-length release since 2021’s ‘Honest Labour’ on DAIS and follows Rainy’s breakout release ‘DESQUAMATION (Fire, Burn. Nobody.)’ in 2022.

In early 2023, while touring and performing at renowned festivals worldwide, Rainy Miller and Space Afrika embarked on a special collaboration. The result of their creative synergy is “A Grisaille Wedding” – an expansive collection of 11 songs exploring the concept of joyous occasions happening in greyscale, drawing metaphors from the contrast between light and dark.
