‘in su’ is the new 4-track EP from French electronic producer Povoa (Jules Rosset). Most recently featured as one third of PPJ on their breakout hit ‘Primavera’, this EP is Jules’ first release as Povoa since 2019’s ‘Layers’ EP, and features PPJ collaborator Páula on two tracks including first single ‘Intuition’.
‘Intuition’ is a disorientating whirlwind of choppy synths, grounded and propelled by Páula’s other-worldly vocal. There is something instantly catchy but also alien about the sonic landscape contained within and the song takes you on a journey full of unexpected twists and turns, all the time propelled by an incessant and irresistible beat. It is this combination of the unexpected and the infectious which makes Povoa’s work so compelling.
Of the track Jules says “I made the track at a time in Paris when I was experimenting a lot with polyrhythmic patterns on some hardware like the main synth we use for PPJ - the old Yamaha PSS 790 and a lot of different textures that I recorded around me: broken glasses, birds, engines, weird creaking and other ambiances from the tube to the mountains. When I sent this idea to Páula she quickly added that amazing melody. It was one of the first tracks we made together that wasn’t for PPJ, I was amazed by her instinct to instantly get the right mood”.
