"...fashioning together strands of Britpop, fraggle, and skatepunk in a heady brew, properly surging on from their quieter, earlier dreampop phase." Backseat Mafia
"Interweaving between jangly-indie, a smidgen of shoegaze and grunge-laden riffs, the two minute rawkus pint-spiller for the sweaty small rooms, stadium halls and festival days sees the retention of Mystic Peach’s antsy signature sound which reflects their beastly live show. " So Young
"The forthcoming EP is a swirling suite of modern-psych self-absorption and they are well on their way to cult heroism of Placebo-sized proportions." Louder Than War
“Mystic Peach's vocalist and guitarist Curtis Gale’s vocals are gale-force winds of their own, smashing through waves of sound with an accelerating menace while the grungy riff antes up worryingly like the most earnest of poker bluffs, daring you to call it out”
The Line of Best Fit
“They’re really, really good, really intense and every song comes straight from the heart." - Huw Stephens
“There will be times in the future where Mystic Peach will be able to purr their way through people's ears, right now it's all about the chaos. Please don't stop!” - Jack Saunders
Today, Southampton’s Mystic Peach release their highly anticipated debut EP M?,on the South Coast label and promoter, Honeymooner Records.
Frontman Curtis Gale says, "M? is a journey of how quickly someone’s mental health can deteriorate. Going from angry and questioning society to feeling calm and alienated. Every one encourages you to be different until it doesn’t meet their narrative. It’s like being a bird on farmers' land. These days are tricky and unpredictable. Uncertain even. It was important to us to represent feeling of ourselves individually and of so many out there.”
In an attempt to rebrand from their preliminary “Dream-Pop” phase into a sound that can only be described as: ‘what might happen if The Horrors were to crawl inside the ears of Dan Auerbach, and wreak havoc in a Kubrik-esq dystopia’, in ‘M?’, Mystic Peach are able to reveal their true colours; from the shape-shifting distortions of murky insecurities, right on through to abstract shades of psych-blushed anarchy.
Combining the wisdom of producer, George Murphy (Yungblud, Drugstore Romeos, Yowl, The Big Moon, The Specials), and the wide-eyed intensity of the band, M? is a “progression of how [we’ve] moved on”; a narrative trawl that follows on from previous endeavors such as the singles, Wanna Be My Daddy? and the intricately chaotic beauty of 2019’s The Eye And The Twitch.
In keeping with themes of creative digression and non-linear evolution, the EP's lead single and opening track ‘She’s So Neat’,acts as an affirmation of their success thus far, whilst marking the closing of one chapter, and the unfurling of many more. Hitting a level of self-expression that’s not inherently explanatory, but has an all-consuming energy that lurches beyond the means of standard communication, “She’s So Neat” is an open-dialogue for everyone and anyone, prepared to let go.
Categorised manically into four key stages: "She So Neat": Obsession, "Demon Sway": Delusion, "It’s Not Their Future": Denial and "Float": Suicidal tendencies, M? is without a doubt a four-way trip to god knows where, and just about every corner of the mind; exemplifying Mystic Peach’ innate ability of documenting the “ordinary”, during exceptionally extraordinary circumstances.
After previously supporting the likes of The Black Lips, Temples and London’s discordance sweethearts Crows, Mystic Peach are beginning to re-sew the seams in their mind-splitting live-set - not to be missed!
