Dublin’s MELTS reveal new single ‘Waves Of Wonder’ - the third cut from forthcoming second album Field Theory - out April 12th via Fuzz Club (The Jesus And Mary Chain, Night Beats - pre-order here).  

Across a glitchy krautrock-tinged psych-rock expedition, the new track explores how the ripples of human connection can go well beyond a singular relationship. As vocalist Eoin Kenny explains: 

"The song Waves of Wonder is about the impact another person can have on how you see the world and experience everything around you. How, being in awe of someone can change your relationship with every other part of your life. The creation of a new life and destruction of the old one." 

Recorded live to tape at Black Mountain Studios in summer 2023, Field Theory was produced by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox, and while their debut album Maelstrom (2022), dealt with forces on a larger scale affecting a whole city, Field Theory explores connections on an interpersonal scale.  

The title takes the scientific term Field Theory, which describes how forces interact and influence particles around them, and applies it to the interactions between people, to the space between all of us, how people interact and affect others around them. Expanding on the album’s themes, MELTS detail: 

“Like gravity we are drawn to and miss people and like light waves we love people and are loved. We live in orbits of each other, drawn by unseen forces. The album explores these forces, how we relate to each other, the people we live with and the people we live without. At the heart of Field Theory lies the realisation that we inhabit each other's worlds as much as our own, through a field of wide-ranging forces, as important as the ones keeping the planets in place.” 

Comprising of Robbie Brady, Hugh O'Reilly, Gaz Earle, and Eoin Kenny, MELTS spent 2022/2023 touring their celebrated debut Maelstrom across Europe, the UK, the US and Ireland, including festival appearances at Wide Awake and SXSW. Outside of their own headline dates, they have also toured with Fontaines D.C. and supported Gilla Band and Public Image Ltd. Along the way they have been praised by the likes of NME, Dork, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan and PASTE, as well as gaining widespread airplay on BBC 6 Music.

'Field Theory' is the second studio album from Dublin four-piece MELTS, due for release April 12th 2024 on Fuzz Club. Recorded live to tape at Black Mountain Studios in Summer 2023 and produced by Gilla Band's Daniel Fox, it's a collection of turbulent electronic psych-rock shaped by bulldozing motorik synth lines, densely layered guitars, primal percussion and the cavernous vocals of frontman Eoin Kenny.
