London based anti-folk noiseniks MPTL Microplastics announce their latest single "sex/pol" - due for release on January 10th via Infrared Records. Swerving hard into the scuzzier end of their range, the band cast away the haunting poignancy of their debut single "Plastic Princess" and aim straight for the jugular with a snarling missive. Vocalist Joey Hollis lacerates the banal evil of the British mindset as mandolins ping about, cellos swoon dramatically and droning tones of unknown origin threaten to overwhelm it all.
Scabrous and caustic, the track perfectly captures the unstable force of their live shows, which often end with most of the band flung into the crowd. Sonically "sex/pol" rides a grunting groove that owes as much to Bo Diddley as it does to Public Image Limited, with Hollis' hissing pronouncements pitched against supremely accomplished musicianship a la John Cale circa Sabotage.
Despite only having two songs released to the world, MPTL Microplastics are showcasing yet again why they've been marked out as one of the most unique and unpredictable groups in the London scene. The band have also announced a slew of shows across London to coincide with the release. The single will be available on all streaming platforms and on the Infrared Records Bandcamp.
sex/pol was written at the bequest of the band's bodhisattva herr Wilhelm Showbiz & mixed by a small lad in Bow in exchange for a rub on the belly & some tobacco. Der generous family trust payed for this recording at a level commensurate w its degree of ambition and deformed assault. A new mind expanding challenge to your white (t)ears. DEFRA be warned. The message runs clear. Pull the handle plastic. It's time to get off the flight.
