country: Vermont, USAToday Vermont singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Lutalo unveils their debut LP, The Academy. An early review from CLASH gave the record a stellar 9/10, declaring how “Each generation needs its own voice, and following in the footsteps of Bill Callahan and Katie Crutchfield who have all painted their own vivid picture of the country they call home, it now feels like Lutalo’s turn at the canvas.”
Now available to stream, The Academy takes listeners through Lutalo’s early years and adolescence as they attended a storied Minnesota private school on scholarship, turning memories into impressionistic folk and rock compositions that are equal parts searing and vulnerable.
Just this week Rolling Stone shared a feature and interview with Lutalo, praising how they “use beautiful and sparse indie rock sonics to flesh out stories of their post-financial crash homelessness, mental health issues in their family and how your childhood will always stay with you.”
The Academy is now available to order on Meadow Green vinyl, cassette, and CD. If you’re interested catching a live, full band performance of The Academy, Lutalo is headed out to support Nilüfer Yanya on tour this Fall. Dates and ticket information are available below.
