Lucy Rose is pleased to share a new single, “Could You Help Me”, her first new music since the release of fourth album, “No Words Left”, back in 2019.
Lucy is also pleased to announce details of a one-off, intimate show at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho on Tuesday 9th January 2024. It will be Lucy’s first return to the capital since a sold-out Barbican show back in December 2019. Tickets go on-sale from 10am on Monday 30th October via https://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/
Musically, Could You Help Me is a marked change from the candid, stark intimacy of No Words Left. There’s a musical experimentalism present here, with skittering, atmospheric beats, unexpectedly gnarly violin solos, and Lucy found stabbing beautifully at a piano creating this almost free-form, jazz-imbued sonic space, a world away from her previous work. The production was shared with British composer/producer Kwes. Confident and bold, it belies the fraught, seismic, but also beautiful years Lucy experienced leading up to its release.
“After having my son Otis, I started to suffer from severe backpain that made living my day-to-day life almost impossible. I sought medical help but was dismissed repeatedly. I put those emotions and exasperation into ‘Could You Help Me’. Although my back prevented me from being able to pick up a guitar, I was able to sit at the piano and play for a few minutes at a time. With Otis patiently listening, I think the music really helped lift me.
“I’d been listening to a lot of different music; Errol Garner, Duke Ellington, Kiefer, Debussy, Little Simz, and finding myself drawn so much more to writing at a piano.”
Could You Help Me precedes a broader body of work for Lucy Rose, with further details to be announced soon.
