Fire Talk Records is thrilled to announce their new signing, lots of hands, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne duo of Billy Woodhouse and Elliot Dryden, and present their kinetic new single, “rosie.”
Since originally meeting in 2019, lots of hands have cultivated a transnational following for their unique synthesis of indie rock and folk with ambient and electronic flourishes. lots of hands have performed across Europe supporting the likes of Claire Rousay, Deerhoof, Fire Talk labelmates Cola and fellow UK experimentalists Blue Bendy, often incorporating live saxophone and flute to help render their orchestral recordings onstage. In the span of three years, lots of hands have released a steady stream of music — 2020’s debut LP, mistake, 2021’s instrumental and sample forward there’s someone in this room just like you, and 2022’s cult favourite, mole — amassing a dedicated audience, eager to see where the duo ventures next.
“rosie” is self-engineered, and distils the elements which have made lots of hands one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the online underground. Beginning with acoustic guitar and Woodhouse’s filtered vocals — “Rosie walks in from the rain // with her lips she said // I don’t want no pain” — the track quickly explodes in layers of digital distortion and complex emotions — “Cuz I’d rather die // with the girl or the boy on my side” — conjuring something at once familiar and otherworldly.
