“It’s The Magic” is a percussive power-punch (there are two drummers in the band), with ominous electronic samples that plod and eventually explode through lyrics about the bizarre nature inherent in everyday life, delivered by frontman Bret Kaser in a way that somehow recalls if Fred Schneider of the B-52’s fronted a hardcore band. It’s a mission statement from a group that’s already been turning heads all over NYC, where they've found themselves on hip-hop, punk, and dance bills – simultaneously out of place and right at home on all of them.
The video for “It’s The Magic” was directed in collaboration between the band and Aaron Fenichell. Lip Critic will tour this fall supporting Screaming Females before a headline run of shows in the UK + Europe that includes a stop at Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris. The band was recently announced in the first group of artists playing SXSW in March 2024, and tonight to celebrate the release of “It’s The Magic” they’ll play a special hometown headline show at The Broadway in Brooklyn.
