After establishing themselves with a broad and diverse array of initial offerings throughout the past year, including "Alcohol & Cigarettes", "Settle Down", "Worthy" and "Night Bus", which have since been supported by the likes of BBC Radio 1, Radio X, XS Manchester, and Amazing Radio, London-based indie disruptors KIDS have now announced the details behind their eagerly-awaited debut EP 'Love and The City Pt. 1', showcased by the swaggering new single "The Boy Won’t Grow Up".
Dealing with early breakups and growing up in the capital, KIDS' music tells the story of band leaders Beau Blaise and Alex Harvey, life-long friends who have written their debut EP 'Love And the City Pt. 1' out of their own stories of growth.
Speaking about the new collection, Beau said, "Our self-produced debut EP 'Love and the City 1' was born out of heartbreak. While working long term in a studio in Wales, I broke up with my girlfriend due to the distance. Then moved back to my hometown, London, reconnected with my childhood friend Alex, we wrote these songs and formed KIDS. The EP tells a story of growth and explores why some early relationships don’t last.
"Sometimes lary and loud with songs like 'Alcohol & Cigarettes" and "Worthy" describing leaning on your vices and destructively dealing with your issues. Sometimes a softer more reflective view on the relationship with songs like "The Boy Won't Grow Up" and "Night Bus". Sometimes uplifting with songs like "Settle down" and "253" showing that life moves on regardless and good times will come again.
"Musically it skilfully darts from delivering punk rap verses to soft intimate melodies all the while the music stays beautifully relatable and honest."
Much like everything they have unleashed in recent months, their latest single 'The Boy Won’t Grow Up' adds another layer to their eclectic direction to date. Channelling a warm and euphoric indie-pop aesthetic this time around, they continue to surprise us with their enigmatic ways once again.
Adding about the new offering, "There's two sides to every story. The Boy Won't Grow Up tells the story of a relationship dying giving each person's point of view along the way. Even if you view it differently the facts stay the same."
Having already established a devout fanbase from a string of live performances recently, including supporting Gang of Youths, Bilk, appearances at Leopallooza (headlined by Metronomy and Sleaford Mods) The Great Escape and Live at Leeds Fest and gathering support from the BBC with plays on Radio 1 and Introducing by Nels Hylton and Jess Iszatt, not to mention John Kennedy at Radio X and the Student Music Network, KIDS are keen to get their music out into the world.
