‘Passions’ is the debut solo album by Halogenix. Focusing on the soulful, introspective drum & bass that he’s become well known for, ‘Passions’ also expands the BPMs of his signature sound to embrace heartfelt future soul and abstract halftime beats.
Although seemingly unambiguous, the album’s title curiously references 19th century terminology, as Laurence explains;
“The phrases 'Passions of the Mind, or Accidents of the Soul' from the early 1800s beautifully encapsulated what we today define as 'Emotion’.
Before we had the modern lexicon to describe these intense feelings, they were experienced but not explicitly named, celebrated and feared in equal measure. In my music, I've found a powerful conduit for expressing these deep-seated emotions - the ones I struggle to communicate through other means. Rage, sadness, uncertainty, joy, elation - all these find their voice in my compositions. The music I create, which resonates deeply with me, often brings these emotions and daydreams to life. They serve as soundtracks to those overwhelming moments in my life, guiding me towards a better understanding of myself. This album, 'Passions,' is a reflection of this journey, an exploration of the profound depths of human emotion”.
Adding to the authenticity and raw emotional texture of the album, the artwork is created by an incredibly talented and unbridled emotional being – Laurence’s two-year-old son, Eka. His wonderful paintings capture the essence of untamed, pure emotion, mirroring the themes of the album.
