Depending on how deep you’ve gone into the Gustaf lore, you may have already figured out that our album title is a reference to the song "Package" off our first record Audio Drag for Ego Slobs. The song opens with the lyrics “My package is rotting and there’s not a product. I have a package forgotten, no chance to remodel.” In that song and for much of our first album, our titular ego slob is obsessively spiraling over other people’s perception of them. They are screaming at their surroundings and trying to coax the earth to bend to their feet. A package (while slightly more innocuous) functions in a similar way. It is a projection of what someone wants you to think of its contents. It shields and protects but is ultimately disposable. Package Pt. 2 is the story of our ego slob’s defense mechanism reaching a breaking point as they are forced to turn inward and assess the root of their incredulous demands. They are learning to break free from a desire to be seen in a particular light and simply accept themself as they are and allow the outside world to do the same.
The same way in which our ego slob must part ways with an outdated version of themself, we too must say goodbye to our product (package and all) and allow it to transform into whatever shape you wish it take. Sure we could keep piling explanation upon explanation in this email but the truth is whatever it does and doesn’t mean and whatever it does and doesn’t make you feel is up to you. So please enjoy whatever those meanings or feelings may or may not be — in the end, all we can say is that we love you, we love you, we love you, we love you, we love you…
