city: LondonAhead of the release of his new EP Not As I (limited edition 12” out Aug 11th) tomorrow and in anticipation of his launch party at Peckham’s Jumbi tonight, George FitzGerald today releases the title track from the spellbinding EP.
“Not As I” is a journey into a musical landscape of intricate sounds and effortlessly interlaced vocals and synths. Clever, confident and self-assured, it’s the sound of George at his very best. “'Not As I' embodies the theme I felt throughout writing this EP of wanting to slow down and take a breath somehow,” George comments. “Whilst everything around me continues to accelerate. A return to writing patient music in an impatient world."
The release today follows entrancing lead track “Mother” which ft. recent Lana Del Rey collaborator SYML and the tantalisingly ascendant “Venera”. These tracks and the rest of the Not As I EP showcase George’s continued evolution as a producer and his ability to reframe his work through new collaborations. “I’d been thinking a lot about my first record ‘Fading Love’ and I wanted to revisit the calmer and more intimate part of my sound,” George explains. “Music that occupies a liminal space between club and home listening. To me, ‘Stellar Drifting’ fizzed with nervous energy and maximalist sound design. In my head, this is the afterglow from that.”
