Wickedly squirming, offbeat electro from members of Protect-U and Dope Body, aka Geo Rip, chasing up their blink ’n miss tape for TTT
First found huddled on their U-Udios label in 2018, then on a wayward album for TTT in 2019, the trio slosh their deft hardware tekkers onto this eponymous debut EP with equal measure of loose but precisely angular funk in four cuts primed for the club as much as rolling around on the sofa.
Guided by the deepest machine spirits and rich knowledge of US psychedelia, jazz, house, they enact a sort of hardware animism in each part, spooling fractal-not-fractional permutations and stint relations of original late ‘80s and early ‘90s house and electro.
‘Drop-In Centre’ pipes up with a lovely fray of sloshing 808s and shimmering chords that sounds like Larry Heard and The Burrell Brothers in a bath of MDMA, whereas ‘Nah Press Fake Text’ prangs out on a niftier 313 electro style like Stingray meet Lifted. ’Tooni’ simmers the funk to a sort of jiggly DC need, and ‘Underwater Bodycam’ drifts into a lush sort of chill-out room new age electro shimmy.
