“Infuses country, punk, poetry and jangle into a concoction that’s truly one-of-a-kind” – Still Listening
London country-punk act Frank Lloyd Wleft releases ‘Take You Over’, the second single from debut album ‘Raised on Red Milk’, on 7th September. Previous single ‘Caroline’ picked up support from John Kennedy at Radio X as well as blogs including The Most Radicalist, For the Rabbits, Still Listening and more, and this more ambitious piece is set to pick up where it left off.
Performed by Wleft and his Orchestra with contributions from Lottie Pendlebury (Goat Girl, Lobby) and Wildwood Daddy, the track is a sprawling epic. Starting as a Carter scratched hoedown, it evolves through moments of psychedelia and post-punk before bringing it all together for the close. Jumping between time signatures and lyrical themes with equal capriciousness, it is a sprawling eight-minute epic musing on the excitement and frustration of youthful living. Its meaning is encapsulated in a refrain at its climax: “I’ll be young, I’ll be free… even if it kills me.”
The 22-year-old Wleft has been performing in London in various capacities steadily since the end of the pandemic. Performances under his own name generally feature his backing band, or ‘Orchestra’, which currently features drummer Will Ormsby and bassist Beatrice Stride. Highlights of their short band history include high-profile Windmill support slots with The Rebel (at the 2022 Windmill Country Christmas party) and Lou Terry, as well as the art exhibition/music showcases of The Public Revue, where ‘The Orchestra’ have rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ash Kenazi, Gentle Stranger and Waterbaby.
Outside of his own band, Wleft plays guitar for Salomé Wu and has done stints playing with ‘Take you Over’ feature and fellow London country singer Wildwood Daddy, as well as Cosette Gobat and Goat Girl’s H. L. Grail. ‘Take You Over’ anticipates the release of Wleft’s debut album ‘Raised on Red Milk’, releasing on 6th October.
