Thrilling London-based band Folly Group have announced their second EP Human and Kind - slated for release on 25 March 2022 - and have shared new single and video ‘I Raise You (The Price of Your Head)’. Folly Group also revealed they are the very first band to sign to Technicolour, the always-reliable Ninja Tune imprint famed for launching the likes of Elkka, Sofia Kourtesis, Octo Octa, and more.
Folly Group will tour the UK on their first run of full-capacity headline shows - following last year’s socially distanced dates, including a sold-out MOTH Club in London and a slot at Pitchfork Music Festival (The Roundhouse, London) alongside Stereolab, Metronomy, Mykki Blanco, Koreless. Folly Group were also taken out on a huge run of shows with critically-acclaimed Nottingham band Do Nothing in 2021 and also toured with PVA. The band’s 2022 debut headline tour begins on 31 March at Studio 9294 in the capital. Tickets for all dates are available now.
The band were recently lauded by Joe Talbot of IDLES whilst curating a show on BBC Radio 6 Music. Talbot said: “Every track is so good. They haven’t released anything that isn’t amazing… my favourite song of the year [is ‘Sand Fight’].” Folly Group were also invited to collaborate with Metronomy on the Posse EP Volume 1 last year which featured Biig Piig and Sorry, too.
Speaking about the new single and EP, Folly Group said: “Where Awake and Hungry doubled as a diary of the band’s formative months and encapsulation of our live show, Human and Kind is a projection of our ambition, and our desire to push ourselves through what we might previously have perceived as the ceiling of possibility for four players. The release is at once introspective and extroverted: it attempts to be a dynamic interrogation of grief and growth.”
Folly Group have also shared the cinematic ‘I Raise You (The Price of Your Head)’ video directed by the acclaimed Bailey Tom Bailey. Of their new single, the band added: “I Raise You (The Price of Your Head)’ is a pandemic-era role-reversal between politician and young person that poses the question: you were happy to gamble with my life, what if I were to gamble with yours?”
Whilst still early in their impressive ascent, 2021 debut EP Awake and Hungry showcased Folly Group’s versatility throughout, veering from anxious freneticism to primal danceability at the flick of a switch. The EP’s singles ‘Sand Fight’ and ‘Butt No Rifle’ were both A-Listed at BBC Radio 6 Music, after the band received repeat airplay from the station’s Lauren Laverne (who premiered both tracks as her While You Were Sleeping pick), Steve Lamacq (who featured the band as his Recommends Spotlight Artist), Cillian Murphy, Tom Robinson, Orlando Weeks, Amy Lamé and Chris Hawkins. Folly Group have also been heavily supported on BBC Radio 1 by Clara Amfo, Jack Saunders and Gemma Bradley, John Kennedy at Radio X (where both of the EP’s singles were added to the X-Posure playlist), and Matt Wilkinson at Apple Music 1. Folly Group have gone on to receive accolades in the tastemaker press from the likes of NME (who included them in their 100 artists to watch for 2021), DIY and Dork magazines, national newspapers such as The Independent and The Daily Star (who tipped them as a One to Watch 2022), fashion publication HERO Magazine, and many more.
