EGGY have today announced their third album, ‘From Time to Time’. To be released through Flightless Records next Friday, March 21. This marks the band’s second full length release with the label, and is the follow up to their 2022 3RRR awarded Album of The Week, ‘With Gusto’.
Diving into more synthesised and expansive sounds, From Time to Time is EGGY's boldest work yet. A cinematic soundtrack that traverses musical eras from 50s piano bars to 00s indie, borrowing from 60s soundtracks, 70s prog, and 90s festival stages along the way. Transitioning between songs like scenes in a movie, From Time to Time was made for the big screen.
"From Time to Time we wanted to feel like a movie. So it felt like dropping everything all at once, without having any singles, felt like the most true representation of that. There are three tracks out today (March 14), which showcase the differing eras of the record. A bit like our version of a movie trailer".
Speaking more to the music of the album, Dom Moore (piano / bass) elaborates:
"We wanted to make an album that challenged us to grow, and to be outside our comfort zone. That blended old and new, sounds from both analogue and digital worlds. There’s MIDI kicks and vintage drum machines, cello and violin with GarageBand strings, auto tuned vocals harmonising with natural. It feels very future and past, alien and memorial. Like John Cale meets Ennio Morricone meets early noughties indie. Whether or not it sounds like that is hard to say, but sometimes it's about the journey not the destination." (Dom Moore)
Never doing things by halves, From Time to Time comes with its own feature film. Four tracks; 'Colouring the Silence', 'Are You Not Entertained?', 'Open Field', and 'Two Horses' are tied together through sequential videos. Showcasing the album’s journey through eras, and follows on from the two minute album trailer released in December 2024. Moving from the 50s to the 70s and into the AI warped future, it is the thought and care put into every aspect of From Time to Time that makes it truly monumental.
"From the beginning of the band, back to when we were just learning our instruments and how to write a song, we always had these big thematic ideas. Both for songs and visuals. I think that’s always come first for us - to dream big conceptually, and figure the rest out later. This time though, the wheels are in full motion. Kinda like that movie Speed. (Dom Moore)
Get your popcorn, find your seat and settle in. It’s showtime.
