city: Los AngelesLast month Dent May, the Mississippi-raised, Los Angeles-based musician and pop auteur, announced his new LP What's For Breakfast (due out March 29th on Carpark Records). The veteran has made a career of impeccably crafted pop songs starting with his 2009 debut The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, which came out on Animal Collective’s label Paw Tracks. His follow-ups in 2012’s Do Things and 2013’s Warm Blanket solidified him as a bedroom pop pioneer whose songs felt equally timeless and ahead-of-the-curve. The last couple of years have seen May crop up on collaborative singles with several artists, most notably a collaboration with Eyedress called "Something About You" which was certified platinum in October of last year.
Following the announcement of his new album "What's For Breakfast", out 29th March On Carpark, May is returning with another single, a track called "Time Flies When We're Having Fun," featuring Pearl & The Oysters.
May says of the song:
"Juliette and Joachim from Pearl & The Oysters are two of my best friends in Los Angeles, and we’ve casually collaborated on a few of their tunes over the years. I felt it was long overdue to have an official track together, and we wrote and recorded most of it from scratch in a single day at my studio Honeymoon Suite, finishing it up in a second session months later. The song originated from something Juliette wrote, which became the first verse. While we were working on an instrumental idea for the chorus, I started singing the chorus from a completely different song called “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun,” which I had partially demoed a while back. It was a beautiful serendipity that our two ideas lined up perfectly."
In support of the new LP, Dent will be heading over to the UK & Europe with a run of shows later this year.
