“A signifier of great things to come from one of Glasgow’s greatest hopes” The Line Of Best Fit
“Mischievously intelligent…pop-edged indie rock” Clash
“Nobody in today’s indie scene radiates with quite the same energy, rebellious flair and swaggering confidence as Glasgow’s modern-day punks” Gigwise
“Irresistibly catchy” Dork
“Sweet indie-rock” Paste
“Roaring punk anthems” Under The Radar
“Titans of the alternative scene with a poetic lyrical flow… no one knows how to whip up a mosh pit like DWDW. I should know, I’ve been in the centre of one” Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1)
Glasgow indie specialists Declan Welsh & The Decadent West share woozy cut ‘First To Know’, out today (June 15th), marking the newest reveal from the band’s eagerly anticipated second record ‘2’, set for release October 27th via Frictionless Music.
Preceded by lead tracks ‘I Don’t Know Why’, ‘King Of My Head’ and ‘Mercy’, the frenetic quartet have recently completed a widely acclaimed mini-UK tour, following on from a string of sold-out shows (including their biggest ever headline gig at Glasgow’s iconic Barrowland Ballroom & Twin Atlantic support tour), whilst having also seen their ‘It’s Been A Year’ EP longlisted for 2022’s Scottish Album of the Year Awards alongside the likes of Walt Disco and The Ninth Wave.
With several further reveals to come ahead of October 27th’s album release, the four-piece are certainly well positioned to capitalise on the widespread press plaudits (The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, Clash, Under The Radar, Gigwise, The Forty-Five) and BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Clara Amfo, Jordan North) airplay that’ve came their way so far. Whilst on the live front, the band are set to tour throughout Europe this autumn to coincide with their LP release, following what promises to be a memorable slot on the main stage at TRNSMT in July before Pulp.
Detailing his latest track, Welsh revealed: “It’s a song about feeling as low as you can and wanting out. About giving up. The “go”-ing in “if I was ever to go you know…” is a permanent exit. It’s a glib chorus, using that kinda understatement to make quite a scary point. Sometimes when we can’t find enough reasons to carry on for our own sakes, it’s the people we love that keep us hanging on. The music is chilled, the lyrics are heavy. I like the juxtaposition.”
Produced by Grammy nominated, Mercury Award winning producer Gianluca Buccaletti (Arlo Parks, Big Piig, Easy Life) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Beach House, Bjork, Big Thief, Slowdive), Declan Welsh & The Decadent West’s ‘First To Know’ is out now via Frictionless Music and available on all digital platforms.
The Decadent West are Declan Welsh (lead vocals, guitar), Duncan McBride (guitar), Ben Corlett (bass), Murray Noble (drums)
