“Shoegaze textures with some gorgeous pop flourishes, CIEL have already attracted word-of-mouth hype” Clash
“Dream-like melodies…yearning guitar pop” Under The Radar
“Shoegaze meets noir rock meets dream pop” Gigwise
“Movement is like a hug for your ears - perfect for filling space in these ridiculously quiet spring days” Dork
“Dream-pop poignancy” Beats Per Minute
Brighton trio CIEL share breathtaking new effort ‘Fine Everything’, set for release March 24th, marking the first reveal from the band’s upcoming EP out later this year.
Drawing influences from garage rock, goth and shoegaze, the group’s forthcoming work (produced by Blood Red Shoes' Steven Ansell) sees them venture towards a grittier and moodier direction, yet still maintaining their melodic pop essence which has attracted so much fanfare over the last 18 months.
Slots alongside the likes of English Teacher, Opus Kink, Penelope Isles, Sasami and Malady have certainly aided their development on the live side, whilst multiple spins on the BBC 6 Music and KEXP airwaves and press support from key publications including Clash, Dork, Gigwise and Under The Radar have increased the three-piece’s visibility to no end.
Newly longlisted for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition, CIEL’s surging momentum has coincided with the arrival of their boldest work to date, and with several festival appearances and tour dates in the pipeline, the Brighton-based newcomers are primed to take full advantage.
Detailing their new cut, frontwoman Michelle Hindriks explained: “It’s about coming of age, and not really knowing how to navigate life. The doubts and difficulties that involve making life-changing decisions, yet maybe not being ready growing up, when all your friends are. I was thinking of how so many people lost touch with their inner gut feeling and instincts, and how all the possibilities in life can feel so overwhelming sometimes. It’s almost kind of easier to stay oblivious to it instead of digging deep into your mind”.
Produced and mixed by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Wolf Alice, The Black Keys), and mastered by Steven Ansell, CIEL’s ‘Fine Everything’ is out March 24th and will be available via all digital platforms.
CIEL’s live set-up is Michelle Hindriks (vocals, bass), Jorge Bela Jimenez (guitar), Tim Spencer (drums)
