Hailing from Swindon, UK, four-piece indie rock band Better Heaven have been carefully honing their craft and bubbling under the surface since forming in late 2023.
The band consists of vocalist Dakota Simpson, guitarist/vocalist Dec Casey, bassist Eddie Witcomb and drummer Jon Snape.
Having spent the tail end of 2023 preparing an atmospheric live show and writing new material for their forthcoming debut EP in 2024, they prepare to release their new single, ‘Texas’ on 16/02/24. With support from BBC Introducing in the West (Harriet Robinson and James Threlfall), Better Heaven embark on their journey as a band with a strong start.
The track itself came to life in the summer of 2023 when guitarist Dec Casey brought a demo to the rest of the band. Having written the song after a long term experience with antidepressants, he decided it was a positive outlet and a way to express his emotions or lack of after coming off the drugs. The band got to work on the song in their homemade studio in Swindon and after months of writing and rehearsing, Texas came to life. Sonically, the track takes influence from late 90’s Grunge and Indie Rock music. The use of open chords helped to create a wide dynamic to the track and the band were guided by producer Tom Rees, working with synths and adding multiple textures using their three vocalists. Lyrically, the band wanted to base the track around the centrepiece lyric ‘I don’t wanna be here, but good god don’t wanna be alone’. It was a big catalyst in helping the band grow as not only musicians, but as a family.
